When we need an easy going filter brew to have any time of the day, we always turn to Bowler.
This coffee comes from an exporter, Siruma, which was started by a woman called Valentina. Our Head of Production and Coffee Roosa was very honoured to spend some time with her and her team while visiting Colombia this summer.
This lot comes from the Cauca region in southern Colombia and it is a community lot from Asorcafe. Asorcafe was founded on July 11, 2003 in the town of Pedregal in Inza and currently there are 290 members who are part of the association. The association was set up to help these producers become organised to sell their coffees as a specialty but also provide a framework and structure to further their education and progression to improve the economic and social conditions for themselves, their families and their community. They are small producers, the average area per producer is 1.8 to 2 hectares of coffee. The plantations are anywhere from 1500 to 2100 meters above sea level; Caturro varieties, typical bourbon, pink bourbon, tabi, Colombia variety, and castillo. They make a fully washed process, from picking the ripe beans, then fermenting it for around 20-40 hours, then washing and sun drying it.
In Roosas words; “When tasting this coffee at Sirumas lab in Manizales I thought straight away that this coffee would be incredible option for Bowler. It is round and classic, just like we want our Bowler to be and it just enhances the beauty of Cauca region so well. I would totally recommend having this as a pour over to fully release all the aromatics and sweetness this coffee has to offer. I got a lot of caramel, chocolate, yellow stone fruits, royal gala apple, crisp citrus acidity, and overall creamy, harmonious cup profile. This coffee is just so so solid. YUM!”.
